I try to avoid working from photographs like a disease and then, never from a photo taken by someone else. However, in the case of, Holly Happiness” I broke my own rule. A student who has become a valued friend, sends me a colorful photo of her Holly Hoc plant. I am so taken with the beauty of the color, I begin to create a painting based on that innocent, little photo. Much artistic license is taken throughout the creation process. In this case, I believe I’ll file this one under, “The end justifies the means.”
